CANCER AND EMOTIONS

Many studies have demonstrated that cancer patients who feel supported have shorter recovery periods, less side effects, better chances of avoiding recurrence and increased survival rates. My first priority is to make you feel supported, heard and understood. Having been a cancer patient myself; I know exactly how it feels.

SETTING THE RIGHT MINDSET

A positive and constructive mindset is crucial, but sometimes easier said than done. There will always be ups and downs. I will support you in difficult moments while teaching you techniques to cope with stress, fear and anxiety.

 

PRACTICAL ADVICE AND INFORMATION

Hearing the words “You have cancer” changes you forever. You go through a rollercoaster of emotions and feel completely overwhelmed with the diagnosis, the amount of information you have to process and the plans ahead. I will guide you through your test results and advise you on questions to ask your medical team. Having a better understanding of your condition and treatment options will make you feel more confident. Besides, getting organized really makes a difference; it gives you back a sense of control.

NUTRITIONAL GUIDELINES

One of the first questions I’m asked is “What should I eat?”  Most people want to have a healthy diet, but they feel confused and uncertain as to what this means. Eating a nurturing diet adapted to every phase of your treatment makes a huge difference in your recovery and wellbeing. Together we will establish comprehensive and easy to implement guidelines: how to shop for groceries, how to get organized in the kitchen, simple recipes…  and so on.

 

EXERCISE/ MOVEMENT

Studies show that staying active reduces your chances of getting cancer and cancer recurrence, while improving survival rates.

I understand that exercising can feel intimidating at a time when you may feel unwell and vulnerable. As a Yoga teacher certified in Yoga Therapy, I will guide you on save movements to do, while being mindful of your abilities and energy levels. Together, we will find ways to incorporate movement into your daily life in a way that feels good. 

SLEEP COACHING

A significant amount of research suggests a link between lack of sleep and an increased risk for various cancers. Sleep also plays a critical role in the recovery and healing process; when you sleep, your body actively repairs and regenerates.

Studies show that insomnia affects cancer patients at three times the rate of the general population. Up to half of cancer patients report insomnia, which can last for two to five years after treatment ends.

In my view, sleep should be viewed as a critical component of overall health and as one of the most effective and accessible preventive medicines available.

I am passionate about teaching proven techniques and healthy habits to help you optimize your sleep.

STRESS MANAGEMENT

Studies have linked cancer progression to chronic stress, depression and social isolation.People who use effective coping strategies to deal with stress have been shown to have lower levels of depression, anxiety and other symptoms related to cancer and its treatment.

I will introduce you to coping strategies to help you better deal with stress and anxiety. In addition, by implementing relaxation techniques in your daily life, you will be able to enjoy some well-deserved moments of disconnect.

HEALTHY LIVING ENVIRONMENT

Our bodies are very smart; all of our organs are meant to work together to keep us healthy. However, when our immune systems are vulnerable, our bodies will certainly benefit from additional help to cope with environmental pollutants and toxic exposures.

I will advise you on easy ways to create the healthiest possible living environment. We will talk about clean water and air, safe food containers and cooking utensils, electromagnetic waves and more.
